E-Shram Card- Now Check Your Balance, and Download eShram Card Online

The Ministry of Labour & Employment, being one of the oldest ministries of GoI, always works on enhancing the quality of life and dignity of the Labour force or unorganized sector. They do it by protecting the interest of labourers, promoting their welfare, and providing social security for labourers both in Organized and Unorganized Sectors by implementing several Labour Laws.

In light of this, the Ministry of Labour & Employment has created the National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW), which would be seeded with Aadhaar, through the eShram portal. It will include information on their name, residence, type of occupation, level of education, skill sets, and other characteristics to maximise their employability and provide them with the full benefits of social security programs. This is the first-ever national database of unorganised labour, encompassing gig and platform workers, migrant labourers, construction workers, and more.

What is an Unorganized Sector?

The Unorganized Sector involves businesses selling goods, services or production with a workforce that has fewer than ten employees. These businesses are not included in ESIC or EPFO coverage. Anyone working in this sector is considered an unorganized labourer.

E-Shram Card Launch Motive-

The Ministry of Employment and Labor of the Central Government launched the E Shram card to help unorganized sector labourers in India. It’s a digital version of the previously launched Shram card.

Regardless of employment status, all Indian workers must have an e-Shram which can be accessed online. The Central government transfers Rs 1000 to workers’ e-sham accounts every month under this scheme.

Moreover, labourers who have not been part of any labour department will continue to get this monthly sum. As such, it helps them save money and support their families.
